A few photos that I took for my job at Sugar Love Chocolates in Reno, NV

Just a collection of my close-up shots that I've taken this past year. Neon lights are a big part of history in the downtown area of Reno. From vintage to new, these signs light up the center of the city. Rumored as of this month (April 2018), many of the older and vintage signs are to be taken down and disposed of. The only problem is that nobody seems to know exactly which are to be destroyed. I was given an assignment in my Journalism class this semester to go out and document a few neon signs, and I picked up a few shots. Enjoy! The downtown Reno Post Office was built back in the 1930's and recently went under renovations that include the urbanized part of the building called The Basement. This is probably one of my favorite places in Reno so far. Window looking out towards the Truckee River on the 3rd floor of the building. On the way up to Reno, we came across this little town with a big lake. I don't recall the name of any of it, but what baffled me most about this place was this enormous body of water and...NO BOATS! It was completely desolate. As we drove through the town and admired the lake, this image became clear. It was the first time that I had ever seen a mirror image like this in my life. So, we pulled the car over and i crawled out of the car in my flip flops to get a clear shot of the scene. When we got to our destination, we had dinner and walked the streets of downtown Reno. One of the most remarkable things we saw was this beautiful church. I had already visited UNR with the Nevada Bound program in April, but I wanted to come back and show my parents the place that I want to attend college. This is one of the first buildings that the university built. UNR was originally going to be in Elko, but when that city never boomed, they built this to expand off of in Reno. After the tours of the campus, we headed over to Lake Tahoe (a must if you're all the way up in Reno). It was my first time there, so I of course had to sort through 30+ photos from that part of the trip. On the way home, we made a stop in the small town of Virginia City to admire the old style buildings and shops. After Virginia City, we ran into thunder storms and severe rain. It wasn't too bad and we got through it, but immediately after that came an enormous dust storm. Visibility had to have been under 10 feet. All of this was thanks to Google Map's idea of 'the fastest route'. It was 20 miles of dirt road along with a sign that read "danger of sink holes".
Just a throwback to October of 2015 when we took the family from England to a ghost town we found back in august.
I sleep in a room with over 100 faces staring at me (I accidentally went in and edited this post and it showed up as that I posted it today. I was originally posted on 5/24) |
